To return items from one store to another, it really depends on the chain of the store and their individual policies. Walmart, Target, Marshalls, T.J. Maxx, and HomeGoods are the stores that will be focused on within this article. 

When Returning Items to A Different Store, It Depends on The Stores Policies:

While considering Walmart as the store you would like to return items from a different store to, the policies are straightforward. You are able to return a Walmart purchase whether it be in store or online, to any Walmart location in the U. S.  

All you need to know regarding returns is that you have ninety days after the purchase to return the item, and you need the receipt to return the item. The only exceptions to the ninety-day rule are regarding returns on electronics. 

The next store to mention with their own return policies is Target. Like Walmart, you may also return any item bought in store or online to any Target location. The policies in place for Target, are that you have a receipt to present at the time of the return as well as the item not being opened after the purchase and prior to the return.  

You also have ninety days after the purchase of the item to return it. The only restriction is that if you purchased an item from an international Target, you may not return it to a location in the U.S. 

Marshalls, T. J. Maxx, and HomeGoods are “sister stores” which means they are all connected in terms of brands and corporations. They all have the same return policy. If you buy an item from Marshalls, you are able to return it to any Marshalls location in the U. S.  

You must make the return within thirty days of the purchase, otherwise you will only get store credit for the item. This goes for T.J. Maxx and HomeGoods as well.

No, you are not able to return an item from one store to a completely different store. For example, consider the sister stores mentioned above; Marshalls, T.J. Maxx, and HomeGoods. If you buy something from HomeGoods you are not able to return the item to one of their sister stores such as T.J. Maxx. The same goes for Target or Walmart. If you purchase an item from Walmart, you cannot return it at a Target store and vice versa. 

Am I Able to Return Items Bought with WIC or SNAP?

You may return items that are bought with WIC or SNAP, but not for a full refund or store credit. You will be able to return the item for a replacement of the same item. 

Am I Able to Return a Recalled Item?

Yes, you are able to return a recalled item. The policy for recalled items is that it does not matter what condition it is in (open or in the condition that you bought the item). The item can be returned for a full cash refund.

If you ordered this item online, and it is damaged or incorrect, you are able to go through the return process on the website or app and be offered either an exchange for the correct item or a full refund.

Yes, if you receive a gift that comes with a gift receipt you are able to return the item for a gift card or store credit with the exception of gifts for under ten dollars. Gifts bought under ten dollars and being returned will be given a cash refund.
